Can a complete novice to role playing gaming attend this event and have a good time?

Definitely. There are usually several "newbies" at each event. Some are just
new to some of the game systems (we use different ones for different
sessions), and some have never participated in ANY kind of paper and dice
role playing game before. All have been able to jump in and have fun right
away!
