Can a complete novice to role playing gaming attend this event and have a good time?
Definitely. There are usually several "newbies" at each event. Some are justnew to some of the game systems (we use different ones for different
sessions), and some have never participated in ANY kind of paper and dice
role playing game before. All have been able to jump in and have fun right
away!
I would love to learn to play role playing games, but I feel intimidated by the rules. Would someone take me under their wing and guide me through how to play at this event?
Your fellow gamers will always gladly help you out as you play. Also, since the player character sheets are pregeneted for you at each MerpCon even, and that's the most
complex part of the rules, and since most of the combat and actions rules mechanics are
handled by the game-master, it's really quite easy to just "jump in" and
begin playing and having a lot of fun right away without needing any special preparation.
I would like to learn role playing now, before I attend MerpCon. How do I find people to game with?
If you want to begin playing sooner than the next annual MerpCon event, you could try to find gamers in your area. There are several ways to do this.
1. Post in the Forums section of the http://www.merp.com website looking to
join games.
2. Subscribe to, and post on the merp@merp.com email list (just send a blank
email to merp-subscribe@merp.com, then wait for the confirmation email to
join), there you will find players from around the world.
3. Loiter in the IRC (Internet Relay Chat) room at merp.com (see the "Chat"
link) and talk to players there that come in and out occasionally there.
